Whether you are new to the South Shore or your family has resided here for generations, we hope you will take the opportunity to attend a service at the First Congregational Church of Hanover. Our members come from many local communities and from many different religious upbringings. We are truly a "community church," and take pride in serving the spiritual needs of everyone. Located in Hanover Town Center, we have been Hanover's church since our founding in 1728. In fact, the original settlers of Hanover established this church as one of their first acts. The First Congregational Church of Hanover was founded in 1728, virtually the same time that the town was incorporated. You may read the rich history of our local church here. The Congregational Church itself has long been a leader in equality; The First Congregational Church was actually founded in this country in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1629. We became affiliated with the United Church of Christ in the 1950's, joining other churches that had similar beliefs. Today the UCC is one of the most diverse Christian churches in the United States. We hope you will join us on a future Sunday and experience for yourself the warmth exuded by our congregation, the strength of message delivered by our ministers, and the passion we have to make sure that no matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here. |
